Food Love

Bob and I are keen about trying  new foods. Sometimes we aren’t sure what we are getting until it arrives in front of us. And a few times, even looking at it, we still haven’t been sure!

We most often cook our own, but when eating at restaurants, we were  constantly taking photos of the food on our plates. So I wanted to share some of those experiences here. And possibly a few recipes.  In no particular order.

Chicha Morada  – By the color, I thought this was pomegranate juice. But it turned out to be a PeruvIan drink made from purple corn. It was refreshing, but for me, not much flavour. It looks great though!

Chicha Morada, served with optional sugar water.

My rating: 5/10 –  Arequipa, Peru

Kankacho – We had no idea what this was, but it was advertised at many restaurants all along the Main Street as we drove through town. It turned out to be lamb. But not ordinary lamb. No, this lamb is raised at high altitudes and fed only ichu grass which gives it a unique flavour. It is a popular specialty of the area. Although we were the only ones eating it at 10 AM.

Our rating: 10/10 –  Ayaviri, Peru
